President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera buried their political differences and chatted together as brothers at a wedding of prominent businessman Simbi Phiri’s son Ashan Phiri who got married to Milca Kunzinga.
The development came barely hours after government through the then Minister of Information and Communications Technology Malasoni Ndau had lambasted Chakwera for labeling Mutharika as a failure.
The wedding also saw the presence of former minister Sidik Mia who dumped the ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) just after the death of former President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika and joined the opposition People’s Party (PP).
Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe, Civic Education Minister Patricia Kaliati, Inspector General of Police Lexten Kachama, Mayor of Tshwane in South Africa and the South African Ambassador to Botswana also graced the wedding.
Speaking at the wedding, Mutharika said for couples to have successful married life there is need for loyalty and trust for one another.
“There is need for couples, understand one another when mistakes are made, couples who support each other during difficult times have a successful marriage,” He added.
The President also advised the couple to fear God and put God in everything they do, saying his marriage was a successful one because of fearing God.
In his speech, Simbi Phiri who is the Executive Chairman of Khato Holdings, a civil engineering company in South Africa said he was honoured to have the presence of high dignitaries at his son’s wedding.
“The presence of the president and other prominent dignitaries at my son’s wedding is an honour to me and my family,” he said.
The wedding was also spiced by a live performance by J.B Mpiana and Wenge Musica of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
