Police in Nkhata-Bay district have arrested two men for allegedly stealing a motor bike belonging to Kawalazi Estate Company Limited.
Nkhata-Bay Police Public Relations Officer, Ignatius Esau has confirmed of the incident in an interview with the press and identified the suspects as Hexon Banda (21) and Matthews Bilima (20).
According to Esau, on December 24, one of the officials from Kawalazi Estate, Chatonda Mwangonde left the said bike at his house in the hands of a watchman on guard.
“Around 2 AM, the two suspects came and tied up the watchman and later went away with the motor cycle which, according to the Kawalazi Estate officials, is valued at K2.5 Million,”
“The matter was then reported to Mzenga Police Unit and after a through investigation, police arrested the two suspects and recovered the motor bike which the suspects buried in a certain forest in the district,” said Esau.
Meanwhile the two are expected to appear before court to answer a charge of robbery with violence which is contrary to Section 301 of the Penal Code.
The suspects come from Tembwe village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhata-Bay district.
