United Village Transformation (UVT) has been working in Malawi since 2010 with a focus on education, nutrition and women’s empowerment in Dothi Village in Lilongwe, Malawi. UVT’s mission is to work with villagers to assist further development in their communities by imparting skills that will help maximize their potential and in turn transform their lives, guide them towards sustainable development through the provisions of education; promoting income generating activities; increasing knowledge and accessibility of information on social, economic and health issues while promoting diverse agricultural farming.
To achieve this, UVT intends to construct Early Childhood Education Centers, Primary and Secondary classrooms, Adult Literacy programs and community centers for training and sharing of ideas and information.
These projects will be implemented through collaboration with local village leaders, government officials and partnering foundations, while establishing village development committees to encourage community participation.
In October, 2016 UVT met the Ambassador of The Republic of Malawi, Mr. Edward Yakobe Sawerengera in Washington, DC who connected the team to the First Lady Gertrude Mutharika. UVT was very privileged to visit the Presidential Palace and meet with the First Lady who showed so much interest in UVT’s programs.
This meeting led to a sought after union between UVT and Beautify Malawi program as well as young women’s monthly sanitary care. UVT realizes the value of focusing on the entire village as opposed to one particular area.
Going by these quotes “Food is life and Education is the Seed” and “it takes a village”, through experience these have indeed become true.
UVT founders are members of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, UN Malawi delegation and the UN NGO Commission. In accordance with the Malawi Growth and Development Strategies (MGDS), UVT is partnering with villagers, social service providers, non-governmental and charitable organizations with the intent of assisting in improving the lives of people living in rural communities in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
