Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda has insisted that he will continue discharging his duty as Minister despite a court order from Mzuzu.
The High Court in Mzuzu this morning suspended Chaponda from discharging his duties as Minister until the commission of inquiry releases its findings on the Admarc maize saga.
The ruling follows as an application made by four Civil Society Organizations in Mzuzu led by Youth activist Charles Kajoloweka asking the court to make a judicial review on the matter.
But speaking in an interview with one of the local radio in the country-MIJ fm radio, Chaponda insisted that he will continue discharging his duties as Minister.
Chaponda there is no way a court can issue an order against the working Minister.
“I am yet to be saved by the court said court order and I will continue saving as Minister of Agriculture,” said Chaponda.
When quizzed further to clarify his stand on the order, the highly charged Chaponda just hanged up the phone.
Meanwhile Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale has vowed that he is going to challenge the ruling.
