Well-known preacher in the country Fletcher Kaiya has accused the police of negligence in the shooting of his son, Jonathan.

Police spokesperson for Blantyre police Andrew Mayao told the press on Wednesday that the law enforcers shot to death Jonathan Kaiya in Blantyre when he resisted arrest and wanted to snatch away a pistol from a plain clothes police officer.

“He has been on the run for two years after he broke away from Soche police and when the police wanted to arrest him, he turned violent, grabbing a pistol from a police officer,” said Mayao.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Kaiya said he suspect a foul play on the shooting.

“I did not expect a police officer who knows the constitutionality of the land to act that way. The best thing that the Police officer could have done is to take my son to court and face the law.

“I know my son had his own problems but shooting him five times is so unfair,” said Kaiya.

When asked on how he is going to remember his son, Kaiya said he will remember his son a very principled man.

Jonathan is survived by one child and a wife.
