Information sourced by Faceofmalawi indicates that the recently passed Access to Information Bill (ATI) is yet to be delivered to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for assentation, 30 days after it was passed by the National Assembly.
Parliament’s spokesperson Leonard Mengezi confirmed of the development in an interview with MIJ fm radio, saying the delay is due to some amendments.
“The ATI bill has enormous amendments to which several stakeholders had to give input before the final one could be submitted to the President,” said Mengezi.
Presidential Press Officer Mgeme Kalilani also confirmed of the development in separate interview.
“The bills that came from Parliament including money bills have been assented by the President. But the ATI Bill has not been submitted,” Kalilani said.
Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if President Mutharika will assent the Bill into law.
