Asian businessman Imran Tutla was on Wednesday robbed MK MK580, 000 and a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone by armed thugs at gunpoint in the capital Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Dandaula, the armed criminals stormed the shop of the businessman on Wednesday evening while posing as customers.
“Tutla was about to close his shop when he saw a number of unknown people entering the shop. He thought they were normal customers until when one of the people pulled out an unknown silver pistol and demanded for cash.
“Tutla then showed them where the cash was and the criminals took away the money and a mobile phone and drove away in a tinted silver Toyota Carina motor vehicle registration number DZ 2933,” Dandaula said.
He said the Police have since recovered MK3, 000 in MK20 notes and have impounded the motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, the two suspects are in Police custody but inquiries are underway to trace the other criminals.
The Police have identified the two suspects as Idrissa Ntuwa 18, from Duwa village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mkumba in Mangochi and Yusufu Bwanali 44, from Nyama village, TA Kalonga in Salima district.
