Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Mzuzu City Mayor William Mkandawire has resigned from the opposition People’s Party (PP).

Mkandawire’s resignation comes barely two months after being re-elected as Mzuzu City Mayor on PP ticket.

Speaking in an interview, Mkandawire said he wants to concentrate on developing the city.

“I have made up my mind and I want to serve the people of Mzuzu.

“We need to work on roads, bridges, markets and various development projects. So, this is not time for politics,” Mkandawire was quoted as saying in one of the local daily papers.

Meanwhile PP Spokesperson Noah Chimpeni is yet to comment on the matter.
