Well-known musician Code Sangala, popularly known as C.O has joined the fight against Malaria in the country by donating medical utilities to the pediatric ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in the commercial capital Blantyre.
Speaking to the press after the donation, C.O said the exercise is ongoing and it will be done on monthly basis throughout the country.
The former big brother housemate said the exercise is aimed at eradicating death caused by Malaria especially among infants which is on the rise in the country.
“I have started with Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital here in Blantyre because it’s one of the hospitals in the country that has high infant mortality rate,” said Sangala.
While not disclosing the amount money spent in purchasing the medical utilities, Sangala urged well-wishers across the country to join him in the fight against Malaria.
The singer said at the moment he is on the move of partnering with other International Organisations such as UNICEF and others in the exercise.
Some of the items donated include; Colostomy bags, Suction catheters, Urinary catheters, Diapers, neck collar, 1 box of lancetsq, Swabs, arms slings and Neo natal pads.
Statics shows that malaria, a parasitic disease spread by the bite of a mosquito, results in 300 million to 500 million clinical cases and causes more than 1 million deaths.
Mostly it is young children under the age of five in sub-Saharan Africa who are affected, dying at the rate of nearly 3,000 every day.
