Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua who is also opposition People’s Party (PP) third Vice President has accused the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of falsely implicating him in maize smuggling scandal.

Two weeks ago the Police in Karonga and Chitipa impounded over 30 trucks loaded with maize heading to Tanzania and some online websites affiliated to the ruling DPP implicated Kalua.

The websites stated that some of the impounded vehicles belonged to Kalua.

Writing on his official facebook page, Kalua trashed the claims.

“These DPP guys are too shallow. Someone should teach them propaganda. They are spreading rumours that Trucks belonging to me were smugling maize to Tanzania. Shame on you. I have never owned a Truck nor have i ever done any business to do with maize. Just because they enrich themselves by smuggling they think we are all smugglers.

“However if it is true, I should be arrested because as a public servant i should be exemplary. If those trucks are mine i give the public the permission to burn them. Please burn them. Lets see if these DPP shallow minds will do it. Otherwise go tell your master that his days are numbered and he should find another case for Kamlepo,” wrote Kalua.

Meanwhile Bishop of the Archdiocese of Blantyre Thomas Luke Msusa has asked President Mutharika to investigate the maize-gate smuggling scandal.
