Following the fracas that resulted to the torching of the anti-riot police vehicle in the capital Lilongwe, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) has transferred Central Regional Commissioner of Police, Clifford Bandawe to Police College in Zomba.

The angry mob invaded Kaphiri police unit in the capital Lilongwe baying for the blood of the murder suspect which they accused the law enforces if shielding him after killing a 17-year-old motorcycle taxi operator Masauko Makola.

After failing to achieve their mission, the angry mob resorted to burning the anti-riot police vehicle.

In retaliation to the fracas, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) on Monday relocated Bandawe to Zomba Police Training.

Bandawe has been replaced by his immediate deputy, John Nyondo.

“The following postings have been approved, with immediate effect, Mr C. Bandawe – Commissioner of Police to Police College . Supernumerally, Mr J Nyondo fron Central Region Police Headquarters to Commissioner –Central Region,” reads in part the statement seen by FOM’s reporter.

Meanwhile the police have described the transfer as normal.
