United States President, Donald Trump may face impeachment process following fresh revelation that he asked James Comey to end the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
A request documented in a memo written by the former FBI director, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The latest revelation had revealed that the president demanded “I hope you can let this go,” Comey wrote, quoting Trump in the document.
Intelligence Committee member Sen Angus King said on CNN that Trump could be close to the ‘impeachment process’.
‘Obstruction of justice is such a serious offense,’ King said. ‘And I say it with sadness, and reluctance. This is not something I’ve advocated for, the word has not passed my lips in this whole tumultuous, three or four months.
‘But if indeed, the president tried to tell the director of the FBI, who worked for him, that he should drop an investigation – whether it was Michael Flynn or whether it was some investigation that had nothing to do with Russia or politics or the election – that’s a very serious matter.’
The development has come after Comey has just been fired by Trump as FBI Director.
