The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has yet again denied bail to rapist Bishop Joe Manguluti of Presbyterian Church of Malawi.
Manguluti was arrested last week for allegedly a raping his 23-year old adopted daughter in the capital Lilongwe on 15 May 2017.
On Thursday last week, Manguluti was denied bail by Chief Resident Magistrate Violet Chipao arguing that the suspect might jeopardize the with witnesses.
The case was adjourned to Friday but the case failed to resume due to the fact that the presiding resident was attending the funeral of Judge Nyakwawa Usiwa Usiwa of the High Court.
The case was then adjourned to Yesterday Monday but the presiding Magistrate Violet Chipao also denied grant bail Bishop Manguluti.
It is said that Bishop Manguluti raped the girl, a fourth year student at one of the colleges in the city, as she was preparing to take a bath.
According to Lingadzi Police, the mother of the house was not around when the ‘man of God’ forced himself on the girl to eat the ‘forbidden fruit’.
The victim reported the incident to the police who issued her a referral letter to Kamuzu Central Hospital for examination. Medical report indicated that the victim had really been sexually attacked.
Manguluti hails from Kalimira Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Santhe in Kasungu.
