The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled on the definition of the crime of bestiality: judges have ruled that only penetration cases can be characterized as crimes, the CBC reports.

This legal decision follows the trial of a man convicted of sexual assaults on his daughters-in-law for several years and sentenced to sixteen years in prison.

One of the charges against him was forcing one of his daughters-in-law to commit bestial acts (in this case, putting peanut butter on the genitals for their dogs to lick them).

In this case, judges consider it is for parliamentarians, not the Court, to broaden the definition of zoophilia if they consider that the current provisions do not adequately protect children and animals.
