The police at Bua road block in Kasungu on Wednesday impounded 30 bags of Indian hemp, locally known as chamba, weighing 90 kilograms each.
According to Kasungu Assistant police spokesperson, Constable Burton Mathewe the vehicle which ferried the illicit herb, registration number BK 3704, did not stop when the police ordered it to forcing the law enforcers to become suspicious.
“Police officers got suspicious and they boarded another vehicle to follow the speeding vehicle. When they got the vehicle they discovered that it was carrying 30 bags of Indian hemp,” said Mathewe.
Constable Mathewe said the police instantly arrested the driver and another person in the vehicle.
The two suspects are Mr Davie Kapanda, 30 from Chintendere village in the area of Sawa in Balaka and Mr Joseph Mpambali, 39 from Mwalibu village in T/A Chadza in Lilongwe.
The two have been since charged possession of Indian hemp which is illegal in Malawi.
