Veteran musician Lucius Banda who is also United Democratic Progressive (UDF) Member of Parliament for Balaka has distanced himself from rumour hovering on the social media that he is at the verge of joining the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), saying the rumours are untrue.

Lucius over the weekend performed at the MCP rally aimed at welcoming Muhammad Sidik Mia at Ngabu in Chikwawa.

Many interpreted the gesture as clear move by Lucius Banda to join the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) with others sending welcoming messages to him.

Reacting to the claims, Banda said his presence at the rally was strictly for business purpose and wasn’t for political move as he was hired and paid to perform at the rally.

“I am a politician and still a UDF member but I have a good relationship with MCP interms of business.

“If you can recall very well, this was not the first time for me to perform at an MCP rally and that is exactly what I have done,” Banda said.

On his part, Zemban Band leader Sam Simakweli said: “Honesly as zemban crew whenever we see a booking we see food on the table plus school fees for our children,so it pains to the fullest and leave us stuck when we see some arrogant people hiring us and over a sudden dropping us for unknown reason..Ena akatitola kutipatsa ka hire mmakhala patsogolo kutokota….tsano tikakudyerani kuti mxii allla..fire burn!!”.

Meanwhile debate on the issue continues.
