Bishop Thomas Luke Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese has come out of the cocoon and commented on the recent arrest of former Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda, saying the arrest shows progress on the maize-gate scandal.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested Dr. George Chaponda together with businessman Rashid Tayub the head of Transglobe over their involvement in the purchase of maize from Zambia.
ACB also arrested businesswoman Grace Mijiga Mhango of a locally registered Grain Traders and Processors Association of Malawi (GTPA).
Speaking in an interview with the press, Msusa said the arrest of Chaponda shows that there is some progress on the matter.
Msusa urged the ACB to speed up the case, saying the case is of national interest.
Meanwhile many Malawians have described the arrest of Chaponda as move to blindfold citizens.
