Former President Dr. Joyce Banda has described the warrant of arrest obtained by the Malawi Police Service (MPS) against her over her involvement in the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate as a smear tactics by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Banda said this in a statement seen by faceofmalawi reporter.

In her statement, Banda said the matter is ploy by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to tarnish her name.

However, Banda said said she has “faith” in the Judiciary system and strongly believe that when the “frivolous charges” are eventually brought before he courts , “they will be dismissed with contempt they deserve.”

“I have taken note of all attempts by various individuals and organisations and the ensuing political witchunt. Let me state that I reserve my rights to take appropriate action against these and any other individuals and groups bent on destroying my reputation,” `Banda said.

The Malawi Police Service obtained warrant of arrest last week and this was disclosed in a press statement.

The police have since informed the International Police (Interpol), according to National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera.
