The Council of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has confirmed the delinking of three constituent colleges from the University of Malawi.

This has been disclosed in a press statement released by UNIMA Council Chairman Dr. James H Maida made available to faceofmalawi.

“The Council of the University of Malawi in exercise of powers as provided in section 10 of the University of Malawi Act has resolved that the college of Medicine, Kamuzu College of Nursing and the Polytechnic be delinked from the UNIMA.

“This was revealed during an extraordinary meeting held on 10th July 2017. In a statement, the Council states that its resolution has been endorsed by the Chancellor of the UNIMA, His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” reads in part the statement.

It further says that the Council’s decision to delink the three colleges from UNIMA was based on the recommendation from the University of Malawi Senate.

Meanwhile, according to the release, an independent Task Force is being constituted to oversee the delinking process.

However it states that until the process is finalized, UNIMA will continue working as one entity.
