Roberto Carlos, former player for real Madrid has been sentenced to three months in prison for delaying a child support for his two children to his ex-partner Barbara Thurler.

He`s reported to have failed to pay amount of money at around 15,000.

His excuse was that he was facing “financial difficulties” hence the failure to provide for his children, according to media.

The court heard that his ex-partner had earlier denied a proposal by Carlos to pay the money in installments.

Carlos, who retired from playing football in 2012, rose to fame in 1997 with his banana free-kick against France.

He was best-known for his stint at Real Madrid between 1996 and 2007, and was a member of Brazil’s World Cup winning squad in 2002.
